Q: What’s your role at Solutus and how does it contribute to the company’s objectives?
A: At Solutus, I serve as the Head of Risk, leading the ongoing development of our Risk function. My aim is to strengthen our second and third lines of defence while fostering a proactive and innovative approach to risk management. This encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, from safeguarding customer data to providing training on combatting financial crime, all aligned with the company’s objectives.
Q: What skills are crucial for your role as Head of Risk, and how have your past experiences helped you develop them?
A: As Head of Risk, it is essential that I don’t work in a silo. Therefore, effective relationship-building is crucial in my role, as collaboration with risk owners across different business areas is essential. Over the years, I’ve developed the ability to clearly communicate the rationale and implications behind decisions, the ‘why’ and ‘so what’. This instils confidence in my stakeholders and enables me to discuss any concerns they have and ensure we are fully engaged in the processes we need to be engaged in. My past experiences have honed these skills, enabling me to navigate complex risk landscapes with ease.
Q: What drew you to Solutus?
A: I was drawn to Solutus by the opportunity to apply my expertise at a pivotal stage in its journey. The chance to expand my knowledge of CRE and the convenience of walking to work every day were added bonuses that made joining Solutus an exciting prospect.
